A MESSAGE FROM THE EEAA PRESIDENTBy Exhibition & Event Association of Australasia, 25 May, 2020Firstly, over the weekend and today the mainstream media has picked up the EEAA’s message that Business Events and Exhibitions should not be part of any government ‘mass gathering’ restrictions. The EEAA messaging for the last two months, directly to Federal and State Governments, as well as via BECA, is that we can deliver our events in a bio-safe environment as all our attendees are invited and can be traced. As I mentioned in last week’s Ask the Board webinar, our next step is to submit the industry’s Bio-Safe protocols and framework to the health authorities (Medical Officers etc.) at levels of Government. This phase of our lobbying and advocacy will focus on the various COVIDSafe policies that Organisers, Venues and Suppliers will implement to include distancing and hygiene measures.Secondly, a big thank you to the hundreds of members and non-members who tuned into last week’s update and asked questions. We will continue to keep you updated.Seeking government permission to operate as well as instilling confidence in our staff and customers that our events will be Bio-Safe and secure are the first and second building blocks in the EEAA “Rebuild Strategy.”The Rebuild Strategy will address the following key areas:Working collaboratively with UFI and BECA to establish post COVID-19/BioSafe protocolsSMEs and independent owners – their role in innovation and attracting new markets and new audiencesPlugging the gaps in the eco-system/supply chainTalent engagement and retention – including a mentoring program tailored for young talent in the industry, and retaining casuals and freelancersRebuilding confidence across exhibitors, visitors and attendees by focusing on “talking to your tribe’ and the power of Exhibitions and Business Events to drive economic recovery. We look forward to seeing you for Global Exhibitions Day on 3rd June where we’ll bring the latest and hopefully positive news from both around the world and locally. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so here.We will continue to keep you updated.Warm regardsSpiro Anemogiannis, President EEAASource: EEAA
