ADELAIDE CONVENTION CENTRE HOSTS THREE SALA FESTIVAL EXHIBITIONSBy Adelaide Convention Centre, 28 July, 2014The Adelaide Convention Centre, as part of its Centre ArtBeat program, will host four exhibitions for the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival, held in August. Art lovers will be able to view the works of visual artists Caitlin Millard (13 June – 24 August), Michelle Lee Willsmore (1 – 24 August), Chelle Destefano (1 – 24 August) and the photographs from the finalists of the SA Today photographic competition (1 – 24 August). Millard’s exhibition ‘Circular’, which is already displayed in Regattas Bistro + Bar, invites viewers to take a journey through the past, present and the future to discover that not everything is as it seems. Emerging artist Willsmore has created a giant photographic mosaic of Adelaide’s Queen Victoria Statue consisting of images captured within Adelaide’s CBD. “Victoria’s Secrets” is a look at the underbelly of Adelaide’s street culture – murals, tags, architecture, stickers, paste-ups and inscriptions in concrete and stone. Destefano’s exhibition, entitled “Rainbow World Series”, includes large paintings of abstract formations in all colours with some texture. Destefano says the Rainbow World Series display “lets people form their own view”. The SA Today photographic exhibition contains a collection of finalist images from the SA Today competition. People from across South Australia were asked to capture a single moment on a single day (May 18) that embodies the essence of the State. The winning photos will be sold during the exhibition with proceeds going to Barkuma, a not-for-profit organisation that provides a range of services to assist people with a disability to live and work in the community. Adelaide Convention Centre chief executive, Alec Gilbert, said the Centre was proud to support the South Australian artist community. “The Adelaide Convention Centre’s Centre ArtBeat program started in 2012 and was formalised in 2013. It runs throughout the year and it’s been developed by the Centre to help local artists exhibit their work to the thousands of state, interstate and international guests that visit Adelaide and the Centre every year. “However, the SALA Festival is a special time of year, and we’re pleased to be able to exhibit four SALA exhibitions and support the local arts community.” Exhibition details Caitlin Millard – Circular13 June – 24 AugustOpen from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm Chelle Destefano – Rainbow World Series1 – 24 AugustOpen from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 5pmOpening Event: 5 August 6pm – 7.30pm SA Today1 – 24 AugustOpen from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 5pmOpening Event: 5 August 6pm – 7:30pm Michelle Lee Willsmore – Victoria’s Secrets1 – 24 AugustOpen from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 5pmOpening Event: 5 August 6pm – 7.30pmSource: Hughes PR for Adelaide Convention Centre
