Broadbeach Conference App Launched for Convention Centre Delegates

By Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia, 18 December, 2014

As a venue that prides itself on providing delegates with the ultimate event experience, the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) together with the Broadbeach Alliance have launched a Broadbeach Conference App exclusively for delegates attending events held at the GCCEC.

The app is aimed at providing delegates with exclusive offers and incentives to shop, dine and stay within the Broadbeach precinct which is less than 500 metres walk from the GCCEC.

The GCCEC introduced a conference card to the market in 2004 to offer event organisers and delegate’s further incentive to explore the nearby precinct and encourage local spend.

Recognising the broader tourism implications of business events, GCCEC’s General Manager Adrienne Readings spearheaded the initiative to build an added value-for-money option for conference delegates by partnering with Broadbeach Alliance. The natural evolution into a free downloadable app, ten years after being introduced, ensures a holistic approach whereby a ‘Broadbeach experience’ stays with a delegate long after a conference has concluded.

With over 150 businesses in the immediate area, delegates are spoilt for choice whether they wish to shop, dine or indulge in entertainment or relaxing activity. With over 3,000 accommodation rooms all within walking distance of the GCCEC, the Broadbeach Precincts’ accommodation offering is just as diverse.

A first for the program, attractions are also being included as part of the app offering to encourage visitation to theme parks and unique attractions whilst they visit the region, further enhancing the overall event experience within the Gold Coast.

Delegates visiting the Gold Coast spend an average 3.8 days in the region, more than any other Queensland destination.

Capitalising on the benefits of a lucrative business events market is therefore high on the agenda of Adrienne Readings and Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick who believe the app is another tangible opportunity for Broadbeach.

“The Broadbeach Conference App is an excellent tool for businesses within the precinct to provide targeted offers for delegates attending conferences and events at the GCCEC,” said Readings.

“The Centre attracts over 200,000 delegates annually and this equates to a strong economic injection directly into Broadbeach and the wider Gold Coast community,” added Readings.

Business events held at the GCCEC generate an annual average of 350,000 delegate days with businesses in the nearby precinct benefitting fiscally from a steady stream of new and repeat GCCEC clientele.

Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick echoed the sentiments as well as the positive momentum the app launch is creating for Broadbeach stakeholders.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with the GCCEC and our stakeholders are equally excited about the new phase of the program. More than 80 businesses have already signed on in support of the app.

“The program not only has a positive impact on the delegate experience whilst they visit and holiday in Broadbeach during their event but it equally has a positive economic flow-on effect onto stakeholders through direct patronage,” added McCormick.

The app is available for delegates to download prior to their conference or during their stay to ensure they maximise their experience within Broadbeach and the wider Gold Coast.
