CELEBRATORY WEEK TO MARK NEW WEST BUILDING OFFICIAL OPENING

By Adelaide Convention Centre, 2 March, 2015

A week long program of business, arts and free community events will mark the much anticipated official opening of the Adelaide Convention Centre’s West Building – the first completed stage in a multi-million dollar expansion.

The opening week program has been designed to showcase the building’s versatility with events including public expos, business forums, concerts, art exhibitions, gala dinners and even a world record attempt.

Thousands are expected to flood through the doors of the West Building over the course of the week to attend events, tour the new building and enjoy some of Adelaide’s best newly created views.

Free public events during the week include SciWorld – an interactive exhibition for families to explore the wonders of science, Emma Hack Art Exhibitions, Solar Panel Art Exhibition and Made in SA – a two-day interactive exhibition bringing together South Australian innovators across a spectrum of industries.

The program also includes a number of ticketed events including a concert by Grammy award winning singer Macy Gray, Longest Lamington World Record Charity Lunch and a Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) afternoon tea.

The Premier will host a cocktail reception on Friday 13th March to mark the official ceremonial opening of the new West Building.

Made in SA, a free major public exhibition showcasing leading home grown businesses and organisations will be a centrepiece of the program. It will bring together South Australian innovators across a spectrum of industries and disciplines, from the arts, sport, food and fashion, to education, health, defence and mining.

The Made in SA exhibition will have six key sections – The Smart State, Big Business, Champions of the State, Team Colours, Protecting our Community and the Creative Laneway with Fashion Shows by renowned SA designer Liza Emanuele.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the week long program of events will give visitors an opportunity see the new West Building’s key features and versatility in action.

“The expansion’s flexibility gives the Centre’s clients many more options when it comes to planning conferences and events,” said Mr Gilbert.

“With three unique buildings that integrate seamlessly, we’ll be able to open up the entire Centre for a large international conference or offer self-contained conferences within individual buildings.

“The West Building has its own dedicated entrance with taxi and coach drop off points so delegates will enjoy their own unique arrivals and registration area without the need to cross events being held in other parts of the Centre.”

With work nearing completion on the West Building ahead of the official launch, work on Stage Two of the Centre’s redevelopment is well underway and will continue in 2015 – creating an innovative solution-focused space which provides even further flexibility for event organisers. It’s scheduled for completion in 2017.
