CELLAR DOOR WINE FESTIVAL ADELAIDE SCOOPS SUCCESSIVE SA TOURISM AWARDS

The Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide has cemented its position as Australia’s most awarded consumer wine event by winning successive South Australian Tourism Awards (SATA) in the Festival and Events category.

 

The Festival’s back to back wins were announced at the annual SATA gala dinner on Saturday night. If the Festival wins again next year they will automatically enter the South Australian Tourism Awards Hall of Fame.

 

The Festival is now an automatic finalist in the 2013 Australian Tourism Awards where last year they picked up a Bronze in the Australian Festival and Event’s award category.

 

In the past twelve months, the Festival has won seven major national and state awards as well as being a finalist for the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) Innovation Award.

 

The Festival, now in its third year, attracted more than 7,000 visitors in 2013, providing an opportunity to sample free tastings from 150+ wineries across 13 iconic regions, and all under one roof in the heart of Adelaide.  .

 

Managed by the Adelaide Convention Centre, the Festival is now the largest consumer wine event in the country, showcasing two of South Australia’s key tourism drawcards – premium wine and food.

 

ACC Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the award is testament to the hard work and creativity of the Adelaide Convention Centre team.

 

“The award will help the Centre be considered as a venue for other consumer events as it puts the spotlight on our capacity and capabilities, said Mr Gilbert.

 

“The Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide is unique as it’s the only event hosted at the Centre that’s also run by the Centre.

 

“Originally, it was created to fill a gap during a traditionally quiet period in the conferencing calendar and the Centre only took on the running of the event because we were unable to find a partner willing to take on the management and share the risk.

 

“However, running the Festival ourselves has proved beneficial to our clients as it’s given us the flexibility and scope to develop and refine new ways of hosting an event – whether trialling new technologies, managing exhibitors or theming the space.

 

“We’re then able to offer these services and new approaches to our clients for their own events.”

 

The Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide showcases the local wine and food industries to local, national and international consumers and demonstrates the ACC’s commitment to promoting South Australia.

 

Next year’s Festival (February 14-16, 2014) is set to be the biggest ever held with more than 8,000 visitors expected to pass through the doors over three days.

 

The Festival program has South Australian food and produce playing a bigger part in the Festival alongside South Australian wine.

 

South Australian MasterChef contestant now Thailand resident Marion Grasby will Guest Chef at the Festival and showcase her talents through a series of three Master Classes.
