CELLAR DOOR WINE FESTIVAL SPARKLES AT THE AUSTRALIAN TOURISM AWARDS

By Adelaide Convention Centre, 20 February, 2013

The Cellar Door Wine Festival Adelaide, which starts this week, has won yet another award.

The Festival picked up Bronze in the Australian Festival and Event’s award category at Friday night’s 2012 Australian Tourism Awards ceremony in Hobart.

The award adds to the Festival’s recent wins at the 2012 South Australian Tourism Awards and the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) Awards for Excellence.

The Cellar Door Wine Festival, which only started in 2011, has quickly become the largest consumer wine event in the country by having the most exhibitors and attracting 6,500 visitors last year. This year’s Festival, which runs from (February 22 -24) is expected to attract more than 8,000 visitors.

The Festival provides visitors with the opportunity to sample free tastings from 150+ wineries across 12 iconic region, and all under one roof in the heart of Adelaide.

Adelaide Convention Centre Chief Executive Alec Gilbert said the award is testament to the Centre’s vision of creating a Festival that could become a tourism drawcard by showcasing the local wine industry to local, national and international consumers and wine buyers in the centre of Adelaide.

“Unfortunately, not all visitors to South Australia are able to visit the wine regions so the Festival provides a unique and convenient experience to sample wines from 13 iconic South Australian regions and meet many of the winemakers.

“The Festival has also become a showcase for many of the fine South Australian food producers with everything from local olive oil and herbs to chocolate and spices available to taste.”

The 2013 Festival (February 22-24) has attracted 30 new wineries to the annual event bringing the number of participating exhibitors to 170, with thousands of wines to showcased from 13 iconic South Australian regions.

The event will also incorporate a series of wine Master Classes including an “SA Seafood and White Wine Showcase” and “Emerging Trends” – a journey through the newest and most exciting varietals to hit the shelves.
