Hollywood film producer and racing driver Chad McQueen is headed to Australia in October as the face of 2016 Motorclassica.

Australia’s premier collector car and motorcycle exhibition, and the largest event of its type in the southern hemisphere, the sixth annual Motorclassica will be held at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building, on 21-23 October.

TAG Heuer, Official Timekeeper and Watch of Motorclassica, teams up with the event to bring Chad McQueen, son of Hollywood Legend, automotive icon and TAG Heuer Ambassador Steve McQueen, to Australia.

McQueen will lead the annual Tour Classica prologue from the Sidney Myer Music Bowl through the city streets of Melbourne to the Royal Exhibition Building.

Presented by TAG Heuer, around 70 car and motorcycle entrants will take part in Tour Classica which takes off in the morning of Thursday 20 October, as the official welcome of Motorclassica 2016.

As the 2016 Ambassador, McQueen will join Motorclassica for the weekend where he will participate in formalities, meet & greet fans, and engage with media.  He will also introduce a special feature of the 2016 event – a Retrospective of his famous father’s cinematic catalogue to be presented by TAG Heuer.

Chad McQueen himself produced a highly-acclaimed documentary in 2015: Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans, a film that recalled his own memories of being on-set with his father during the making of the seminal movie: Le Mans (1971).

Motorclassica visitors will this year be given the rare privilege of viewing TAG Heuer Master Watchmakers at work and enjoy an exhibition of historical watches that celebrate TAG Heuer’s authentic roots in motorsport that began with dashboard chronographs in 1911 by founder, Edouard Heuer.

Pierre Blouin, TAG Heuer’s General Manager for Australasia says, “TAG Heuer is delighted to be the Official Watch & Official Timekeeper of Motorclassica 2016.”

“TAG Heuer’s rich history in motorsport could not be more fitting for Motorclassica. As Australia’s premier automotive event, the partnership will showcase a strong connection between TAG Heuer’s heritage and a passionate audience of classic car enthusiasts,” Blouin added.

Further underscoring this new partnership, Chad McQueen also has historic ties to TAG Heuer, with his father famously wearing a Heuer branded driving suit and Heuer Monaco timepiece during filming of Le Mans.

Motorclassica Event Director Paul Mathers is delighted to welcome TAG Heuer to the event.

“Outside of cars and motorcycles themselves, there are few brands more iconic in the automotive-related space, than TAG Heuer.

“Highly respected for the quality and innovation of their timepieces, and their celebrated history of automotive involvement, TAG Heuer is the perfect fit for an event that presents the very best to a discerning audience.”

Chad McQueen follows in the wheeltracks of previous Motorclassica Ambassadors including Gina Campbell, member of the Campbell Speed Record dynasty, Sir Stirling Moss, Sir Jack Brabham, five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell and legendary Lamborghini test driver, Valentino Balboni.
