DB Schenker provides custom solution to meet timeline for Perth’s Fringe World Festival

By DB Schenker, 3 February, 2016

This month the DB Schenker Australia team was proved capable of offering shipping and logistics solutions to one of Perth’s largest festivals the Fringe World Festival, which is the biggest annual arts event in Western Australia. Fringe World Festival Perth is the third largest Fringe Festival globally.

The Fringe World Festival is a summer celebration held during the city's buzzing summer festival season.  The program of 700+ events includes comedy, circus, family entertainment, theatre, visual arts, music and musicals, dance and cabaret presented by Western Australian artists along with performers from all over the world.

The cargo which DB Schenker managed was the tents for the festival’s pop-up venues loaned from European touring festivals. Due to the nature of these European tents and their use in festivals globally these tents need to be shipped internationally. As a result of the tents prior commitments in Europe it is late autumn before the shipping process can begin. As a consequence of this, a very tight timeline is created to arrive at their location in Perth for the Australian festival. Another effect of leaving Europe in late autumn is that the tents are often rained on and will need cleaning prior to or during the loading process in order to pass Australia’s strict quarantine regulations.

In previous years the tents needed to be unpacked at the DB Schenker depot for an inspection to ensure they pass quarantine. The unpacking and inspection is a time expenditure which is costly on such a tight timeline. This year however due to the hard work and forward thinking of the staff at DB Schenker a solution was able to be found for Fringe World Festival.  By planning ahead the team was able to organise with Australian customs an onsite only inspection. This allowed for an easier delivery and more importantly saved time. The tents arriving with enough time to allow set up was critical for a successful pop-up show to take place.

The Festival began on the 22nd January and with 31 days runtime will continue until the 21st February. The DB Schenker team was happy to work with and provide this solution for Fringe World Festival and look forwards to continuing the relationship in the future.
