The Exhibition and Events Association of Australasia 2013 Awards for Excellence were announced last night at an emotional final gala event at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Over 300 guests paid tribute to the winners of the 16 categories and to the winners of the President’s Awards and Young Achiever Award.

The night included a special tribute to the staff of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre including video highlights of the Centre’s 25 years and a tribute song performed live by The Groove Academy.

Hosted by James O’Loghlin, the EEAA Awards recognise outstanding achievement within the industry and were judged by 35 independent judges. The awards were open to venues, suppliers and organisers.

In a departure from tradition, EEAA President Domenic Genua presented the Trevor Riddell President’s Award to two individuals recognising the unique contribution made by Debbie Evans, Managing Director, Reed Exhibitions Australia and Matt Pearce, Managing Director of Diversified Exhibitions Australia.

Over the past few years the industry has been under enormous pressure due to the closure of the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre. Debbie Evans has been a lead advisor in the industry’s representation work and sought to find solutions that would assist the whole industry.

Matt Pearce was also recognised for his contribution to the Association for five years as its President. He played a major role in repositioning the EEAA and to setting it upon a course for the future. His leadership skills helped to create a strong culture that focussed on communicating and delivering the new direction.

EEAA President, Domenic Genua said that it was an honour to present the award to two outstanding contributors to the Association.

The 2013 Young Achiever Award was presented to Domenic Le Roy of Van Den Berg Design Team. Domenic is Operations Manager and Producer at the design company which specialises in exhibition design. He was nominated for his outstanding achievements.

As an inaugural show the organisers carried out comprehensive research to ensure the success of the show, pre, during and post the event.  They engaged stakeholders early and implemented a well thought out strategy to achieve the identified key outcomes.  A well-presented submission. EMI noticed a gap in the market, undertook extensive research and developed a business plan to oversee the creation of this new event.  This effort certainly paid off.  The show concept is in reality fairly simple as it attracts highly emotive attendees who are willing to spend.  “Hats Off” as it is a clever new show that looks to have been well executed.”

“I think they were brave in being very single minded about who they wanted to engage.  Keeping the dog show only allowed them to gather a great audience and connect them to exhibitors as well as providing an experience they loved.  Well done! The show really understood that the world is full of dog mad people.  It took a passion and kept it specific.  They were not afraid to be very targeted and it paid off.
