EEAA can help boost your marketing Message from the Chief Executive Dear Members, I’m very pleased to advise our Members and partners, that Kai Hattendorf the CEO of the Global Association for the Exhibition Industry (UFI) has accepted EEAA’s invitation to come to Australia in September to meet Members and partners. EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio. Kai will also be joined by Mark Cochrane, who leads the UFI Asia-Pacific Team.This is a great honour for the EEAA to welcome Kai and Mark to Australia and we are building a program of events to enable Members to hear from them. Stay tuned for details but please note 18 and 19 September in your diaries. EEAA values its relationship with UFI – the Association has provided many opportunities for the EEAA Members to stay abreast of major issues impacting the sector globally. Kai Hattendorf took over the role in November 2015 and is bringing new ideas and a strong communications focus to UFI – he and Mark are inspiring leaders and I know you will enjoy meeting them. We were thrilled about winning an inaugural Global Exhibitions Day Award – this was announced by UFI and Exhibitions World magazine a few weeks ago in recognition of our work engaging Governments about the importance of the exhibition and events sector. Our work reaching into the marketing community to promote the Power of Exhibitions through Mumbrella continues strongly and we were honoured to be part of the 2017 Mumbrella Awards. We pay tribute to Designteam for the commendation they received at the Mumbrella Awards. We were thrilled that a EEAA Member stood out among a big field of candidates in the new award for interactive marketing sponsored by the EEAA. We’re hoping more Members will enter this award next year so that we can shine the light on the effectiveness of live events as a marketing channel even more. We thank the team at Mumbrella for the spirit of partnership that has been developed with EEAA – and we hope to bring you more with Mumbrella in the future as we vigorously pursue our agenda to “influence those who influence marketing spend”. The EEAA is a vibrant community – and it continues to attract interesting new Members. The events industry is changing and so too is our Membership as we reflect the changing nature of our sector. It’s a pleasure to welcome our newest Gold Partners; international organiser Deutsche Messe and venue Merivale. We also welcome new Members, Rockpool Dining Group and the return of Association Member, Caravan & Camping Industry Association NSW. The EEAA website launched in December is serving us and our Members well. It’s a useful place for uploading all your company details and event news. It currently also features numerous job vacancies in our Member companies. Don’t forget to make use of this crucial communications platform available to all our Members. And speaking of job vacancies, the EEAA is currently recruiting in the important Administration and Member Services role – we’re looking for a good all-rounder to join our team. Here’s the link – get in quick if you have a star candidate to refer to us as we will be interviewing shortly. On the training front – there is the great news that the Excelling in Exhibitions course offered by TAFE NSW is now available on the Gold Coast and in Adelaide. A couple of other big innovations coming up – we’re pleased to inform you that the EEAA 2017 Awards for Excellence will be administered through a new online portal being developed with Awards Force. We expect this will make the entry and judging process more streamlined and are looking forward to rolling this out next month when we kick off the 2017 Awards Call for Entries. The 2017 EEAA Conference and Awards for Excellence will be held on 28, 29 and 30 November in Melbourne – so pop these dates in your diaries. We’ll be announcing venue details very soon. We’ve started working on our program so if there are any themes that you’d like us to explore, don’t hesitate to give me a call. Our conference content is carefully curated so that we give Members excellent opportunities for learning. Each day at the office we have the pleasure of talking to Members, helping them, connecting them and supporting them with our range of services. We are looking forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary with Members through our end-of-year events when we will put the spotlight on the people who have helped build our vibrant industry and Association. I also had the privilege this week of attending the KD Lang Concert at the ICC Sydney Theatre – what a wonderful concert but also interesting to experience the new hospitality suite showcased to VIP guests by Geoff Donaghy and the ICC Sydney team. The new ICC Sydney venues have many interesting spaces which add a range of flexible options for use of these facilities. The coming two months are very busy for our Members with over 70 exhibitions being held across the country – many of you, our Members, are experiencing your busiest time of the year. We wish you every success whether you are the organiser, host Association, venue or supplier. Finally, if there is anything we can assist with – please get in touch. Joyce DiMascio Chief Executive EEAA attracts global leaders to Australia in September The CEO of UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, Kai Hattendorf will be in Australia from 18-19 September along with UFI’s Asia / Pacific Office Regional Manager, Mark Cochrane. EEAA and Mumbrella put events on Australia’s biggest marketing stage The power of face-to-face marketing has been recognised in its own category for the first time by Australia’s largest media and marketing community at the Mumbrella Awards 2017 overnight (29 June). Read more. EEAA on stage with award winners “HCF Hands On”. EEAA featured in Exhibition World The EEAA’s recent successes in its government advocacy agenda is getting global recognition. Last month, Joyce DiMascio was invited by Exhibition World to share her thoughts on best practices for engaging with government. In her blog post, Joyce discusses the importance of having a clear policy agenda, using evidence to support your case, choosing the right partnerships to amplify your voice and talking to both sides of government. Just weeks later, the EEAA was recognised by global peak body, UFI, and Exhibition World for the positive impact of its industry advocacy as a result of its effective #GED17 campaign efforts in the inaugural Global Exhibitions Day Awards 2017. International award win for EEAA EEAA’s achievements in government advocacy have been recognised by industry peers in the inaugural Global Exhibition Day Awards 2017. Awarded the Industry Impact Award, the Association’s activities for Global Exhibitions Day 2017 was judged by The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and Exhibition World as having had ‘the most positive impact supporting exhibitions as an industry’. EEAA welcomes new intern: Dylan Owen-Taylor EEAA is pleased to welcome Dylan Owen-Taylor to the EEAA team as our new intern. Dylan completed his BA-Media, Culture and Communications at Macquarie University in 2016. He then spent the remainder of the year travelling through Europe, the United States of America, and Central America. As a tennis fan he saw all four grand slams that year (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open). Dylan is looking to gain an insight into the events and exhibitions industry as well as develop his media communications skills. We welcome Dylan to the team.
