EEAA NEWS | Building stronger voice for the exhibition industry

Dear Members,

Joyce DiMascio, EEAA Chief Executive
Joyce DiMascio, EEAA Chief Executive

I am so proud of what we achieved with the EEAA Global Exchange with UFI, the Global Association for the Exhibition Industry – the signing of the MOU with Kai Hattendorf during his visit to Sydney will open up a whole new range of opportunities for our Members. So I’m looking forward to mapping out our next steps when I meet again with the UFI team in a few weeks.

The EEAA Board is meeting in the coming weeks to map out the next 5 year strategy for the Association – this is an exciting opportunity to consider what we must do to remain fit-for-purpose. The whole Board is participating as we chart the course to continue building an effective association for our sector.

The formal assessment of award entries for the EEAA 2017 Awards for Excellence is about to begin – so best wishes to all our entrants. Your online entries will be reviewed by 39 judges – three per category.

And finally, please block the dates in your diaries for the end of year conference. It will run over two days and we’re looking forward to opening registrations next week. The program is shaping up nicely and we have an excellent line-up of speakers. A new feature will be our specialist “clinics”. Details of the program will also be released next week.

This edition of the ENews includes lots of Member news and membership housekeeping – please scroll down and make sure you have attended to the membership administrative matters in the stories below.

Best wishes from the EEAA team – we look forward to seeing you all in Melbourne on 28-30 November.

Joyce DiMascio
Chief Executive

Countdown to the EEAA Conference and Awards

EEAA shines the light on Melbourne for its 2017 Conference and Awards for Excellence on 28-30 November

The EEAA is pleased to take its 2017 finale events – the annual Conference and Awards for Excellence – to Melbourne on 28-30 November. The EEAA 2017 Welcome Reception will be held in the Panorama Room at Metroplis, the EEAA 2017 Conference will take place at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre and the EEAA 2017 Awards for Excellence will be held in Melbourne Museum’s Touring Hall.

What’s new this year
New in 2017, the Association has added an additional day of specialist clinics to this year’s conference program. We are giving the wider business event industry the chance to dive deeper into topics of great importance via a workshop-style experience.

These specialist clinics recognise the convergence of conferences and exhibitions in the event sector and are designed to have applications across the entire business event industry, not just the expo sector. The topics that will be covered by these clinics include marketing, sales, safety logistics and security.

Who can attend
Our conference is open to EEAA Members and Non-Members. We encourage participation by a broad cross-section of business events industry professionals, stakeholders and partners to help inspire lively and thought-provoking discussion, learning and networking.

Stay tuned for registration and speaker details
Details about the conference program and how to register will become available over the coming weeks. Keep up to date and stay connected with the EEAA via social media (LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook), our regular newsletter or on the website: eeaa.com.au

UFI CEO and the EEAA CEO and Board formalise the partnership with the signing of the MOU.

The EEAA Global Exchange in Sydney last month was a great success and we were honoured to welcome CEO, Kai Hattendorf, and Regional Manager for Asia/Pacific, Mark Cochrane from The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) – to Sydney.

An important outcome of this exchange was the historic MOU which EEAA and UFI signed to grow the opportunities for the Members of both Associations.

EEAA Organisers, Associations, Venues and Suppliers will benefit from better connections and access to UFI’s global activities and insights, and collaborate in areas including:

• Advocacy in marketing community and Government
• Research projects
• Educational programs
• Promotion of careers in the sector and mentoring young leaders
• Strengthening the presence of Australasia industry in UFI community
• Promoting knowledge sharing
• Brokering of introductions to strengthen the network of EEAA and UFI

ADVOCACY: EEAA supports BECA policy changes

The EEAA has contributed to national policy changes proposed by The Business Events Council of Australia (BECA).

The policy changes focus on Trade, Security, the Visitor Economy, Skills Shortages and the Ongoing Value of Industry Research.

EEAA will continue to work with the other Members of BECA to help secure Federal Government support for business events. At present, the coalition of BECA Members is working together to frame a refreshed policy framework to pitch to the Government and Opposition.

ADVOCACY: Short-term holiday letting in NSW

NSW Planning
NSW Government | Planning & Envrionment

The NSW Government has released an Options Paper about short-term holiday letting (STHL) in NSW in response to recommendations made by the NSW Parliament Legislative Assembly Committee.

The EEAA will be submitting a response advocating that any reforms should not compromise the availability of accommodation stock for access by the exhibition and event sector. The presence of Airbnb in the market has provided complementary stock and with more accommodation capacity during major event peak periods. For further information or to submit feedback visit www.planning.nsw.gov.au/STHL
