EEAA Global Exchange and UFI Partnership18-20 September 2017 SydneyThe Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) is pleased to share with you an update from our successful EEAA Global Exchange held in Sydney with The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI).We were honoured to welcome two exhibition and event industry global leaders – UFI CEO, Kai Hattendorf, and Regional Manager for Asia/Pacific, Mark Cochrane – to Sydney for our Global Exchange which was made up of a series of high-level industry, government and business forums across three days including:EEAA Young Stars & Leaders TablePolitical Insiders Round-tableIndustry Reception and “State of the Industry” addressDavidson Business Breakfast at Parliament HouseVenue site visits including Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park, Luna Park Sydney, Dockside’s L’Aqua and International Convention Centre SydneyEEAA and UFI also signed an MOU to formally kick-off our intent to collaborate more closely and to grow the opportunities for the Members of our two Associations. This was an important outcome of the event.The three-day intensive program gave our international visitors the opportunity to hear from our Members, see some of Australia’s key venues, be updated on infrastructure investment around the country including Western Sydney and also be updated on the political and business landscape. At the political level, our delegation also visited NSW Parliament and met the Premier of NSW, Gladys Berejiklian and Parliamentary Secretary, Jonathan O’Dea, both strong advocates for the business events sector.UFI has shown its commitment to our region and to supporting the growth of the Australasian business event industry by partnering with us on this historic Global Exchange and in the MOU signed during the exchange.We thank Kai Hattendorf, Mark Cochrane, our Members, stakeholders and the special guests who contributed their time, expertise and insights to the program, as well as the venue hosts and our event partners for their generous support.KEY MESSAGES FROM KAI HATTENDORFUFI CEO and the EEAA CEO and Board formalise the partnership with the signing of the MOUUFI AND EEAA – PARTNERSHIP FOR THE FUTUREThe signing of an MOU between UFI and EEAA is an historic milestone for the two Associations and their Members. EEAA showcased Sydney and Australia as a destination for business events to the UFI – The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.Our guests heard from NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian that since the opening of ICC Sydney, one million people had been through its doors and 1,000 events had been secured.CEO, Kai Hattendorf, and Regional Manager for Asia/Pacific, Mark Cochrane, visited Sydney Showground and Sydney Olympic Park, Luna Park Sydney, Dockside Group and our newest state-of-the-art venue in Darling Harbour – the International Convention Centre Sydney. The Association also updated UFI on important expansion also occurring at the MCEC and other venues.The development plans for Western Sydney were an important part of the UFI visit program. UFI’s own data supports the link between infrastructure investment and industry growth.Australia is a leader in events best practices and we have a sound international reputation. Kai and Mark were impressed with the new facilities in the city centre and the plans for Sydney Olympic Park and Sydney Showground, suggesting that this continued investment in Western Sydney would unlock additional potential for growth in the Australasian market.Kai and Mark reinforced the importance of infrastructure investment to NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, at the breakfast held at Parliament House where they were hosted by Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and Treasurer, Mr Jonathan O’Dea. The Association was recognised in the inaugural awards, established by the UFI and Exhibition World, for its achievements in government advocacy and for having had ‘the most positive impact supporting exhibitions as an industry’.A major objective of UFI’s visit was the opportunity to learn more about the business event landscape in Australasia. To assist with their understanding of the issues and challenges at the forefront of the minds of our industry’s leaders, Kai and Mark were invited to join the EEAA Board meeting. Kai and Mark also took met with UFI Members in the region.
