The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) is calling on emerging young leaders of the business events industry to “road test” it’s major work to develop a Sustainability Charter and Framework for the industry.

This follows the announcement in June last year that the Association had committed to a major new initiative designed to make environmental sustainability a major focus for the business events industry.

A Board-led Environmental Sustainability Working Group has completed the first phase of its work and is seeking the feedback of young business events sector professionals.

EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio said that the future of the industry was in the hands of young people and it was important their expertise and aspirations informed the Association’s work.

“Two back-to-back Young Stars Sustainability Forums will be held at International Convention Centre Sydney and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on 25 February and 26 February respectively. It’s critical that our next generation leaders help us to shape this strategy and the programs that will stem from it.” Ms DiMascio said.

“We invite the industry to join us for these important workshops – we don’t want to undertake this work in a vacuum. Collaboration is essential.

“There are many passionate young leaders who have already been involved in this initiative so we’d like to make sure more can have their say by sharing knowledge, expectations and practical experience.

“The events give emerging leaders a direct pipeline to the Environmental Sustainability Working Group so that they can influence the course of action that will be adopted by the EEAA. We are confident that many of the solutions to embed sustainable practices will come these two events – and from young people.”

Insights gathered at the Young Stars Sustainability Forums will be shared with the EEAA Executive Board later that week by EEAA Board Member and Chief Operating Officer of the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre, Leighton Wood and EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio.

Attendees are also invited to a networking reception following the workshops.

The ICC Sydney is hosting the event on Monday, 25 February and MCEC is hosting the event on Tuesday, 26 February for everyone in the events industry, including non-member and Members of the EEAA.

The event is a part of the Association’s commitment to leading the industry to adopting more responsible environmental practices, a major priority of the EEAA.
