The Exhibition and Event industry has gathered to support women in business at the Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia’s (EEAA) inaugural International Women’s Day Breakfast this morning, ahead of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2014.


“Our event recognised and celebrated the achievements of women and in keeping with the spirit of International Women’s Day, our event also supported the Not-for-Profit, Fitted for Work,” said EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio.


“It was an inspirational breakfast and the first time EEAA has held such an event.”


EEAA guests donated good quality corporate wear and accessories to Fitted for Work which provides corporate clothing, personal styling and job interview preparation to help disadvantaged women get jobs.


“About 20 outfits including shoes and accessories were donated to Fitted for Work at the breakfast which picked up the International Women’s Day 2014 theme of ‘Inspiring Change’,” she said.


Close to seventy guests heard from leading social commentator, writer and marketing specialist, Jane Caro; President, Reed Exhibitions South East Asia/Australia, Debbie Evans; CEO, Info Salons Australia, Jo-Anne Kelleway; and CEO of Doltone House and active philanthropist, Anna Cesarano.


“We were honoured to hear how these women have successfully managed their businesses, inspired their teams and given back to our industry.


“Each encouraged the women in the audience to challenge themselves, to be comfortable in their own skin and not to lose perspective.

“Clearly, it is not an easy road and each of our guests openly shared how they combine the demands of work, home and family. They spoke about who had inspired them, how they lead and what it is like to be at the helm of major companies in Australia. All talked about the need to work outside your comfort zone and take on the challenges that we sometimes fear.” she said.


EEAA President Domenic Genua that EEAA’s latest Market Monitor shows that EEAA members employ 3,232 full-time staff, 5,091 casual/part time staff and 5,110 contractors.


He said: “We know that many of these positions are held by women. As we have seen in the EEAA Young Stars Program – there is a generation of under 35’s in our membership, mostly women, who come with a new way of thinking and skill-set. And with a drive and determination to embrace change and fly. Our job collectively is to give them the opportunity to flourish.


“For if we treat our young women as work horses, not valued, not rewarded, not promoted – they will leave. And our industry will be all the poorer for it.


“We are in the hands of people who work with passion and commitment and today on International Women’s Day – on behalf of the Board of the EEAA and the EEAA team – we salute and we thank you.” Mr Genua said.
