EEAA WELCOMES APPOINTMENT OF NEW TRADE AND INVESTMENT MINISTER, STEVEN CIOBO

AND PAYS TRIBUTE TO ANDREW ROBB

 

The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) today congratulated Steven Ciobo on his appointment as Trade and Investment Minister in the Turnbull Government, and paid tribute to his predecessor, Andrew Robb.

 

EEAA Chief Executive Joyce DiMascio said the Association looked forward to working with Mr Ciobo and his team to further grow the business events and exhibitions sector, worth $23.1 billion to Australia’s GDP.

 

“It’s a great achievement for Mr Ciobo to be the Gold Coast’s first Federal Government Cabinet Minister in 35 years and we are delighted he will bring his energy, commitment and personal knowledge of the value of tourism and business events to this important role,” Ms DiMascio said.

 

“We have written to Mr Ciobo and look forward to meeting with him and discussing the key issues facing our industry.

 

“EEAA has also written to the Prime Minister congratulating him on this appointment.

 

“In particular, the opportunities to work with our sector to explore trade opportunities in the region that can be developed from our Members’ events in the key industry sectors of education, investment, tourism, food and agribusiness, advanced manufacturing, infrastructure, retail, resources and energy, health and services.”

 

Ms DiMascio also paid tribute to outgoing Minister Andrew Robb, who has announced his intention to retire from politics.

 

“Andrew Robb has been a strong supporter of the events and exhibitions industry and opened the door of Austrade to our members,” she said.

 

“Our relationship with Austrade is continuing to strengthen and I’m confident will deliver many positive business opportunities for Australia in the future,” Ms DiMascio added.

 

“We thank Mr Robb for his outstanding service to Australia over many decades of public life and wish him and his family the best for the future.”
