EEAA WELCOMES THE START OF CONSTRUCTION OF EXHIBITION AND CONVENTION CENTRE – ICC SYDNEYBy Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia, 29 May, 2014MEDIA RELEASE28 May 2014 EEAA WELCOMES THE START OF CONSTRUCTION OF EXHIBITION AND CONVENTION CENTRE – ICC SYDNEY The Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) welcomed the start of construction today of Sydney’s new exhibition, convention centre and entertainment precinct at Darling Harbour. EEAA was invited to join the Premier, Mike Baird, and Deputy Premier, Andrew Stoner, plus PPP partners from Darling Harbour Live for the sod-turning ceremony at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Sydney site. EEAA Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio, said it was pleasing to hear that the project was on-time and that the preparation of the site for commencement of construction was on target. “Though it is early days, every day counts in a project of this scale and it was good to hear the Premier and Deputy Premier outline the status of the project and their commitment to the business events industry,” she said. “There is no doubt business events are on the radar of the NSW Government and both the Premier and Deputy Premier have been committed to supporting the industry during the three years of disruption caused by the redevelopment.” At today’s media briefing, the Deputy Premier drew attention to the importance of the exhibition industry and the fact that Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island was this week hosting designEX, the exhibition devoted to architecture and design. EEAA’s three year advocacy campaign focussed on getting Government support for a business continuity plan for displaced events. These events have been relocated to Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island, the Sydney Showground and Sydney Olympic Park, Australian Technology Park, The Star, Australian Turf Club, Luna Park, Dockside, Doltone House, and The Concourse. Some events moved interstate.Source: Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia
