(SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA) 01 September 2016 – Oz Comic-Con returns to Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island ([email protected]) for the last time during the weekend of September 10-11.
Australia’s premier pop culture extravaganza with the dazzling array and frenetic energy generated by some 20,000 fans is the fitting public show finale at the harbourside venue. [email protected] is progressively wrapping up its events calendar in the lead up to the opening of International Convention Centre (ICC Sydney) in December 2016.
Urging one and all to “Unleash Your Inner Geek”, the multi-genre annual event will transform Glebe Island into a pilgrimage site for fans of science fiction, horror, fantasy novels, Disney, anime, manga, toys, web comics, collectible card games as well as video games. Trekkers, one of the most invested fan bases in the world, are expected to flock to the event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek this year. Over the years, Oz Comic-Con has become the focal point for these seemingly disparate groups – it’s the shared experience that unites the diverse subcultures.
The event continues to offer the complete convention scene: comics, games, tokens, collectibles and hard-to-find merchandise; an event crammed program including workshops and panel discussions; film screenings; an autograph area; games; competitions; and cosplay fashion shows, all set across the venue’s full footprint.
“Since our first Oz Comic-Con event, we have gone all out to please our passionate fan communities by producing exceptional experiences for them,” said Reed Exhibitions Australia Group Director – Operations, Stephen Steenson.
This year’s star power will come from Karl Urban aka “Bones” in the Star Trek reboot movies, Kate Sackhoff from Battlestar Galactica,  the Carver Twins, the cast of Supernatural, Daniel Portman and Ksenia Solo from Game of Thrones, Robert Englund a.k.a. Freddy Krueger, X Files’ Mitch Pileggi, the voice of Super Mario and many more.
Oz Comic-Con will feature two dedicated spaces on the show floor: Anime Station, a whole new area specifically for the anime and manga fan communities; and Cosplay Central, a hub for cosplayers and cosplay fans. Anime Station will host an exclusive screening room for new releases direct from Japan as well as a manga library. Cosplay Central attractions include cosplay special guests, a photography gallery, cosplay photographers, change room and repair station.
“Adding to our thriving attendance each year and continued success are our collaborative efforts with the [email protected] team in promoting the event including Facebook competitions, and publicity in traditional as well as social media,” said Steenson.

“It’s been both a challenge and a thrill to cater to the diverse fan groups and provide an exciting environment for geek culture to thrive in,” said [email protected] General Manager Malu Barrios.  “We always enjoy working with Reed Exhibitions to make Oz Comic- Con even more compelling than the year before.”
Boldly going where no Oz Comic-Con has gone before, in 2017 the show will be held in its new Sydney home – ICC Sydney.
