ExpoNet designed, account and project managed the high-profile “Market Square” exhibition at the recent Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayors’ Forum (2015APCS), held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, 5 to 8 July.


The event is an initiative of Brisbane City Council and is held biannually. It is now in its 20th year and this year’s event was the most successful ever held.  The 2015APCS, described in National media as the most significant gathering of international leaders in Australia since the G20, attracted over 1100 business and government delegates from more than 130 cities to convene in Brisbane. An indicator of the success of 2015APCS is the fact that it was attended by more City Leaders (mayors and deputy mayors) from more international cities than the World Cities Summit held earlier this year in New York.


2015APCS presented an unrivalled opportunity for businesses to establish or expand their footprint especially in the local government sector in the Asia Pacific region.  Major 2015APCS Partners including Microsoft, Trade and Investment Queensland, Bloomberg, J.P. Morgan, Sunshine Coast Council, the Brookings Institution and SingTel-Optus all featured major displays in the 2015APCS Market Square Exhibition where some 30 other organisations were also represented.


The centrepiece of the Market Square exhibition was the Brisbane Café, presented in association with Bloomberg.  This innovative and interactive space provided espresso coffee service, café seating, a stage for short “power sessions” and in-break entertainment presentations plus huge LED screens providing a live Bloomberg feed in addition to simultaneous broadcast of APCS plenary sessions. ExpoNet also designed and constructed a Networking Lounge area adjacent to the exhibition.


ExpoNet has established a successful history of delivering services to the Asia Pacific Cities Summit.  In 2013 the ExpoNet project management team overcame considerable challenges to present the Brisbane Café and Pavilion at the 2013APCS held in Taiwan.  Designed and project managed by ExpoNet in Australia, the impressive pavilion was constructed by ExpoNet’s Taiwan affiliate under the direction of an ExpoNet Project Manager who travelled to Taiwan for the event.  


For 2015APCS, event organisers Carillon Conference Management Pty Limited (CCM) of Brisbane selected ExpoNet to design and build the Market Square exhibition as well as all branding and signage for the event. The Market Square exhibition featured over 30 exhibitors and 12 custom stands.  The conference and exhibition space also featured a full gamut of signage and branding options including column wraps, lectern fronts, registration desk branding, backlit banners, fabric banners and direction signage.  There was also a custom designed and constructed entry feature, staging requirements and styling touches such as native florals to complete the Australian host’s theme.


CCM Director and Secretary-General of 2015APCS, Ashley Gordon, commented that the café, branding and exhibition services provided by ExpoNet contributed substantially to the success of 2015APCS. He commented that “the major focus of APCS is delivering an environment in which City and Business Leaders from across the Asia Pacific region can meet and discuss solutions to common challenges, for this reason “soft areas” such as the Café and Networking Lounge are crucial. Getting the design and execution of these areas right is essential and it was wonderful to have a partner like ExpoNet there every step of the way”. He continued stating that “a significant international event like 2015APCS needs to look impressive – from the moment delegates arrive they need to feel that they are part of something important. The branding, signage and structures supplied by ExpoNet really hit the mark in this regard and were the subject of many positive comments by delegates”.
