FIRST PUBLIC SHOW AT GLEBE ISLAND ALL SEWN UP

By Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia, 21 July, 2014

(SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA) 17 July 2014 – A change in location proved a strong drawcard for visitors to last week’s Craft & Quilt Fair, held at Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island ([email protected]) for the first time.

The venue’s much anticipated first public show has been hailed a success, with up to 30,000 craft enthusiasts passing through its doors during the 21st edition of the five-day show –  a higher attendance than the show has experienced in recent years at its previous Darling Harbour location.

Expertise Events Managing Director, Gary Fitz-Roy, organiser of the popular exhibition, commended both the venue and its location.

"As the first public show, Glebe really was a great success with exhibitors and visitors. We received the most compliments we have had about the show in some time, as it was totally re-invigorated.

“It was so good that I think we will have a bigger problem returning to Darling Harbour as Glebe is so good in its own unique way. Given it’s our only city location venue, and clearly learning from the first few shows, Sydney loves the whole experience of the new centre."

Kicking off with a meet and greet with Fair Ambassador Shelley Craft on the first morning, the show’s program presented visitors with a wide range of hands-on educational experiences, from quilt making demonstrations to patchwork and scrapbooking workshops.

As it was also the first time the general public have had the opportunity to visit the new Glebe Island location, education also played an important role in the lead-up to the event.

[email protected] General Manager Malu Barrios said, “The work by the Expertise team to demonstrate just how easy it is to get here, in conjunction with our own efforts and those of earlier shows, have been instrumental in ensuring visitors are aware of our free ferry and bus services on event days, in addition to our onsite car park with dedicated disabled car spaces and drop-off points.

“We were also very pleased to introduce our new free shuttle bus service from James Craig Road, for patrons wishing to travel to the venue by foot.”

Expertise Events will be back at [email protected] at the end of August with the International Jewellery Fair.

Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island has been purpose built to provide a fully functioning event space while ICC Sydney, the new exhibition, conference and entertainment complex in Darling Harbour is being developed.
