(SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA) 16 September 2014 –  A healthy increase in attendance – the first in a number of years – was just one of the glittering highlights of the recent International Jewellery Fair, held at Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island ([email protected]) in late-August.

The three-day show was also the venue’s first high-security event, requiring up to 45 security personnel around the clock to watch over the precious jewels on display.

“With over 170 exhibitors showcasing everything from diamonds to watches to pearls, security is paramount. It’s always a test when you move to a new venue and particularly in this case, as there are still some lingering perceptions of [email protected] as a ‘tent’ or makeshift structure and therefore more of a security risk," said Gary Fitz-Roy, Managing Director at Expertise Events, who organise the show.

“I’m pleased but not surprised to say, from move-in to move-out, everything worked like clockwork. We experienced no issues or incidents of a security nature or otherwise. We also received fantastic feedback from exhibitors and our speakers in regards to venue logistics, layout and atmosphere. We look forward to returning to the venue again for the 2015 Fair.”

As well as testing the venue’s security operations, several new catering initiatives were trialled at the show. “The team at Expertise wanted to try something different, so for the first time we featured a make-your-own salad bar and a New York-themed café offering paella, pizza and pasta. Both were very well received and a great example of how we are able to tailor the venue’s services to meet event-specific requirements,” said [email protected] General Manager Malu Barrios.

Two shows remain in the Glebe Island calendar for this year. Reed Gift Fairs return this weekend with the September edition of their show, and Grand Designs Live makes its first appearance at the venue from 24 – 26 October.

Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island has been purpose built to provide a fully functioning event space while ICC Sydney, the new exhibition, conference and entertainment complex in Darling Harbour is being developed.
