Major Events for Sydney Showground

By Sydney Showground, 16 September, 2014

Sydney Showground was proud to be a major venue for both the Rotary International Convention 2014 and IUCN World Parks Conference 2014.  Both events were extremely successful for the organisers as well as for Sydney Showground, Sydney Olympic Park and for Sydney itself with many delegates taking time out to travel around and see the beautiful sights, enjoy the amazing restaurants, cafés and bars we have on offer or take in a show at the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Some quick stats on both events include:

IUCN World Parks 2014

  • More than 6000 participants
  • Five heads of state, one Vice President
  • 170 countries
  • 15 international environment ministers
  • 7 heads of United Nations organisations
  • 6 Australian ministers and Senators
  • 320 delegates registered to participate in Sydney Olympic Park specialist delegate excursions / technical tours.
  • Total of 2670 room nights at Accor hotels at Sydney Olympic Park
  • An estimated $34.2m of economic activity injected into NSW

Rotary International Convention

  • 18,603 visitors from Australia and around the Globe
  • Over 14,000sqm of space (not including catering or administration areas)
  • Up to 1,800 guests for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Rotary “House of Friendship” (renamed “The Billabong”) was located in The Dome and Exhibition Halls 2, 3 and 4. “The Billabong” was dedicated to the work of Rotary International and Rotary clubs where attendees could pick up great ideas for new projects. The other half of the Billabong illustrated more great Rotary work and showed many aspects of Australia and its Rotary clubs.
