MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER

There’s a buzz around the Gold Coast. And nowhere is it more obvious that at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. We are proud to have been specially chosen to host the netball competition and the basketball finals in our Arena space. GCCEC’s facilities are on show to a potential global live television audience of more than 1.5 billion people.

We also have the very important task of being the base for the world’s media who are covering every aspect of the Games at various other venues.

As a major contributor to the economy of the Broadbeach precinct, GCCEC is delighted that neighbouring businesses are sharing in the benefits, with nearly 55,000 spectators attending the 11 days of competition and spending money on nearby restaurants, shops and leisure pursuits.

Visitor numbers to the precinct are being boosted even further with Broadbeach’s Kurrawa Park nominated as a designated Festival 2018 family zone with mazes, climbing structures and interactive art, including one specifically for babies and toddlers. The Commonwealth Games Mega Store has been sited at the precinct’s Victoria Park for several weeks, attracting tourists and curious locals and further raising the precinct’s profile.

The legacy from the Games is expected to be significant for all businesses, and we have no doubt that our amazing city with all that it has to offer businesses in the future, will absolutely shine on the world stage.

The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre (GCCEC) is living up to its reputation as a world-leading sustainable venue by offsetting 16 tons of carbon emissions through the use of environmentally-friendly BioPak cups and cutlery in 2017.

The 16 tons is equivalent to almost 6,800 litres of fuel saved, over 64,000km travelled in a vehicle and the removal of four cars from our roads.
