Prost to Australia’s largest Oktoberfest

By Royal International Convention Centre, 6 October, 2017

More than 40,000 pretzel lovers will don their Dirndl and Lederhosen at the Brisbane Showgrounds with Oktoberfest celebrations getting underway.

Over the next two weekends (October 6-8 and 13-15), Oktoberfest Brisbane will transform the Showgrounds into a mini Bavaria with hand-crafted German beers, traditional cuisine including pork knuckle, bratwurst and freshly baked pretzels, traditional folk music, yodellers, a new brewing competition, rides and more.

For the very first time, a 24 metre high Oktoberpole will stand tall at the Showgrounds. The pole was shipped from Germany, took 40 people to assemble and is a longstanding Oktoberfest tradition symbolising people coming together to celebrate.

This is the tenth consecutive year revellers have come together to embrace their inner German at Australia’s largest Oktoberfest which is fast gaining an international reputation, with the celebrations covering more than two hectares of outdoor space at Brisbane’s biggest indoor / outdoor events site.

Brisbane Showgrounds General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said they’re thrilled Oktoberfest Brisbane had chosen to call the Showgrounds home.

“This is a hugely popular festival and we’re pleased organisers have held it here ever since it was first introduced a decade ago,” he said.

“With the weather warming up, October is a bumper month for outdoor events at the Showgrounds with more than 22,000 people expected at RnB Fridays on October 21 and the four day Pre Christmas Caravan and Camping Sale set to attract around 15,000 people from October 26.”

Oktoberfest Brisbane kicks off at 4pm tomorrow.

The Brisbane Showgrounds precinct is located just 1.5km from Brisbane’s CBD. For more information about the Brisbane Showgrounds visit
