We wish to advise the board has accepted Mark O’Sullivan’s decision to resign after 12 years as CEO of RASV and agreed with him that he will finish on Friday 3 November 2017 after wrapping up his 12th successful Royal Melbourne Show.

In 2006, Mark was brought in to oversee the opening of the revamped Showgrounds and was instrumental in one of Australia’s first successful PPP’s. He managed the successful transition into the $108m redeveloped Melbourne Showgrounds in August that year and conducted the Show in September, only one month following this move.

Mark’s other significant achievements include:

  • Repositioning the RASV as a contemporary and trusted organisation promoting excellence in agrifood and fibre production, generating economic value in excess of $430m to the State of Victoria;
  • Diversifying the RASV’s revenue through the successful development of the venue business thereby reducing financial risk;
  • Repositioning the Royal Melbourne Show as a truly major event in Victoria’s event calendar, generating economic value in excess of $240m each year to the State of Victoria; and
  • Planning, managing and overseeing a journey of significant cultural and financial change for RASV including the most financially sound position in its long and proud history; revenue has doubled over Mark’s 12 years in the CEO’s chair, resulting in healthy financial reserves to enable development for future sustainability.

During his tenure, Mark has secured the RASV’s future as manager of the Showgrounds venue, a move which has ensured a long term financial gain for the Society and stability for the people who work here.

On behalf of RASV, the Board, and all staff, we wish Mark all the best as he tackles the next phase of his career which already includes considerable non-executive contributions to sport and education.

The RASV Board confirms that:

  • Mr Jon Perry, General Manager, Corporate Services, has been appointed Acting CEO.
  • Jo Fisher Executive has been engaged by RASV to undertake an open field recruitment search for a new CEO for the RASV.
