(SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA) 21 November 2014 – Barely 12 months together as a team, the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island ([email protected]) crew stood among the year’s outstanding achievers honoured at the 2014 Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) Awards for Excellence in Melbourne Thursday night.

Joint winner with Reed Exhibitions Australia (RXA) in the Best Green Initiative category and a finalist for the Best Venue Team title, [email protected] joined other industry luminaries at EEAA’s “night of nights”, which is held annually to applaud its members’ finest works. The EEAA is the peak industry association in Australia and New Zealand, representing all aspects of the exhibition and event industry.

“We’re thrilled to have our work with RXA to maximise the use of sustainable transport options to the Centre acknowledged with this win,” said [email protected] General Manager Malu Barrios.

In the lead-up to Reed Gift Fairs Sydney February, the first event held at Glebe Island, RXA and [email protected] developed a traffic management plan which ultimately saw 76 per cent of visitors use public transport to the show, significantly reducing the event’s carbon footprint, and, according to Robert McIndoe, RXA Operations Director, creating a blueprint for later shows.

“RXA has been able to apply the same transport strategy to subsequent events at Glebe Island, including Hair Expo Australia and Oz Comic-Con, similarly reducing the impact of these events on the environment,” said McIndoe.

[email protected] was also proud to be recognised for their outstanding team performance. “This has driven our developing corporate culture and is a key element to our success so far. To be named a finalist in the Best Venue Team category is one of the highlights of our challenging but rewarding first year,” said Barrios.
From October 2013 until the Centre’s opening in February, the team hit the ground running delivering a fully constructed and operational venue within just six months, a rare feat by itself.
The [email protected] team has since secured and successfully implemented some of the largest exhibitions in Sydney – including the Reed Gift Fairs, Sydney International Boat Show and Oz Comic-Con.
“From the word go, our strategies and operational plans have been no different from what a major, full-service venue of a global city would deploy – ‘interim’ never comes into play in our mindset, “ Barrios added.
In addition to returning events, the [email protected] team is keyed up to welcome new shows in the 2015 season including Total Facilities, Travel Industry Exhibition, Drinks Show and Pacific 2015: International Maritime Exposition.
