Stars rally at Royal ICC to help sick kids

By Royal International Convention Centre, 17 November, 2017

Television personalities, actors and music greats will gather at the Royal International Convention Centre (Royal ICC) tomorrow, to help raise funds for sick kids as part of the Channel Nine Telethon.

Popular news presenters/reporters Sylvia Jeffreys and Peter Stefanovic will co-host the fundraiser, with Grammy Award-winner Leo Sayer and singing sensation Dami Im part of the entertainment line-up.

With a target of raising $11 million for the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the telethon will be broadcast across Queensland on Channel Nine, encouraging people to donate while also showcasing the venue.

The sold out Coffee Club Telethon Ball will also be held in the Royal ICC, with 1,000 people sitting down to a three course menu featuring Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show award-winning produce.

Brisbane Showgrounds General Manager of Venue Sales and Marketing Jago Coyle said the Channel Nine Telethon was first held at the Brisbane Showgrounds last year.

“We’re thrilled to welcome back the telethon for a second year. It raises funds for a great cause and one we’re proud to be associated with,” he said.

“The Showgrounds is the perfect venue for this event, with its state-of-the-art convention centre, world-class kitchen and talented chefs, and onsite accommodation at Rydges Hotel.”

The RNA, which runs both the Brisbane Showgrounds and Royal Queensland Show (Ekka), also supports the Children’s Hospital Foundation each year through its mini Ekka held at Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, by bringing the fun of the show to kids who can’t attend due to illness or injury.

The Channel Nine Telethon will start at 7pm.

The Brisbane Showgrounds precinct is located just 1.5km from Brisbane’s CBD and is Queensland’s largest indoor / outdoor events site.
