Sydney: Hair Expo combines two destinations for the ultimate event collaboration

By The Star Sydney, 20 June, 2014

Boosting Sydney’s capacity for hosting major events and exhibitions, The Star partnered with Reed Exhibitions to host three gala events and the wrap party of Hair Expo 2014, alongside the major exhibition that was held at the Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island, 7 – 9 June 2014.

For the first time, these two venues were utilised to provide exhibitors, attendees and international guests with something different to previous years, whilst ensuring ease of access for the 10,000 national and international Expo attendees who flooded into Sydney. The Star Event Centre hosted 5,400 guests over three nights, celebrating the best of the Hairdressing industry at their legendary gala evenings whilst the major exhibition at Glebe Island hosted 150 exhibitors with over $1.6million spent on hairdressing supplies over the weekend.

Amelia Coote-Harris, Hair Expo Australia Event Director at Reed Exhibitions, explained the benefit of utilising The Star alongside the major exhibition at Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island.

“Hosting Hair Expo and the evening gala events in new venues gave them an injection of innovation that worked to pique the interest of exhibitors, attendees and guests this year. The Star is a glamorous Sydney icon which suited our exuberant audience of hairdressers down to the ground.

“The option to use both properties – one ideally suited to large-scale exhibitions and one perfectly suited to all other styles of large events – the ultimate result for a successful Hair Expo,” said Ms Coote-Harris.

As the largest hairdressing industry event in the southern hemisphere, transport was a key concern. Having The Star and Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island close by, eased the transport pressure with complimentary buses, and ferries to The Star’s wharf, for the 10,000 attendees.

For the first time in the expo’s history, the fashion parade, gala dinners and after party were held at the same location, Event Centre and Marquee at The Star respectively, offering guests unprecedented accessibility and simplicity for their celebrations.

Richard Howarth, General Manager, Marketing, Sales & Entertainment at The Star was delighted that the Expo chose this innovative solution, enabling Sydney to host this major exhibition.

“It is fantastic that Sydney’s events industry is thinking outside the box when it comes to hosting major events and exhibitions in Sydney. With a capacity of up to 4000, our Event Centre offers a range of opportunities to support major exhibitions held at Sydney Exhibition Centre @ Glebe Island.”

“Our team of event professionals are constantly striving to deliver inventive event solutions. We were delighted to be able to host the gala dinners and after party of Hair Expo 2014 and offer delegates access to the various other entertainment options we have on site, including five star accommodation, over 20 bars and restaurants, and our world-class casino,” said Mr Howarth.
