By Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia, 7 November, 2013

The Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) is calling on members of the public to vote for the city in the category of World's Leading Meetings and Conference Destination in the 2013 World Travel Awards.

Melbourne was recently voted Australasia's Leading Meetings and Conference Destination and as such, has progressed as a finalist for the World title, which will be announced on 30 November, 2013.

MCB’s Chief Executive Officer, Karen Bolinger, said that Melbourne would be a truly deserved recipient of the World title for its exceptional track record in delivering high-calibre business events.

“Melbourne has been voted the world’s most liveable city several times and is also privileged to have a number of unique qualities which make it an outstanding business events destination,” said Ms Bolinger.

“Not only can the city boast the nation’s highest concentration of convention facilities located in the city centre, it is also Australia’s knowledge and innovation capital and has an enviable level of collaboration between government, industry stakeholders and suppliers, which ensures every event held in Melbourne is seamless.

“These assets have enabled Melbourne to secure the right to host three of the world’s largest and most prestigious conferences due to take place over the next year including the 22nd World Diabetes Congress for 12,500 delegates (December 2013); the World Congress of Cardiology for 9000 delegates (May 2014); and the International AIDS Conference for 14,000 delegates (July 2014).

“Vote for Melbourne in the World Travel Awards to see the city rightly recognised as the world’s best meetings and conference destination.”
